What a night it was for Huddersfield

What a night it was for Huddersfield. What a performance. What a season it has been for them. Fresh from a picking a point at the Etihad the previous weekend, David Wagner’s side needed just a point to guarantee top flight football next season. They came to fight a side that was fighting for a top four finish.

Conte team selections was a talking point with his star man Hazard and Giroud starting on the bench. Belgian striker Laurent Depoitre gave Huddersfield the lead after beating Willy Caballero to an Aaron Mooys through ball.

Tottenham won by a solitary goal and cannot be caught by Chelsea. Liverpool just need a home draw to Brighton to condemn Chelsea to the Europa League. Chelsea needed to spread the last fear to Liverpool. They however the home draw ensured Liverpool just need a single game to guarantee them a top four finish.

Survival on the top flight sometimes is about defying the odds and Huddersfield have certainly done that. Against Chelsea their attacking impetus wasn’t ambitious, but their aggression, their commitment, their furious application to the task – that took heart. They played Chelsea as equal, and even took lead in the 50th minute. Chelsea equalized but it was fortuitous and ultimately not enough.

Gunner’s poor away form this year continued as they lost to Leicester. It was Arsenals straight seventh away lose. It was the usual suspects at the King Power Stadium, Mahrez and Vardy, who were called upon to slay 10 man Arsenal.
