LAFC delivered a commanding performance, defeating the Colorado Rapids 4-0 to advance to the final against Columbus Crew. The victory was marked by clinical finishing and solid teamwork, with standout moments from Mateusz Bogusz, Kei Kamara, Denis Bouanga, and Lewis O’Brien.
The first goal came in the 42nd minute when LAFC capitalized on a well-orchestrated set piece. Murillo initiated the play, sending the ball towards Hollingshead, who cleverly let it pass through to Bogusz. Positioned perfectly, Bogusz fired a low shot to the far left corner, leaving the Colorado goalkeeper with no chance.
Just before halftime, LAFC doubled their lead. Hollingshead was involved again, this time providing a precise pass to Kai Kamara, who calmly found the back of the net in the 45th minute, putting LAFC in control with a 2-0 lead.
The third goal was a solo masterpiece from Denis Bouanga. Starting from LAFC’s own 18-yard box, Bouanga picked up a clearance ball and embarked on a stunning solo run. He dribbled past multiple defenders before taking on the last man and slotting the ball home, showcasing his exceptional skill and determination.
The final blow came in the 75th minute when O’Brien, recently subbed in, scored his first goal for LAFC. His strike sealed the 4-0 victory, capping off a dominant performance by the home side.
Looking ahead, LAFC will face Columbus Crew on Sunday in a highly anticipated final. The two teams have a history, with Columbus defeating LAFC in a previous MLS Cup final. This time, however, LAFC is determined to turn the tide.
Bouanga, reflecting on the upcoming challenge, expressed his eagerness: “It’s a final, that’s going to be the last game of the cups. We are going to be ready. It won’t be like last year’s game. We are eager to win the game on Sunday.”
One of LAFC’s newest signings, the decorated French striker Olivier Giroud, was unable to find the back of the net despite several attempts. LAFC defender Aaron Long shared his thoughts on Giroud’s impact and what he brings to the team: “A ton, yeah, we’ll see where he’s at physically, but in training he is so good and he is such a good locker room guy. So we’re so excited for him every time he gets on the field. He almost knocked a couple in today and was denied by Zach Steffen, but yeah, he is a great player. And we can’t wait for him to start building his fitness up, getting more and more minutes, and hopefully he can play a good amount in this final.”
With momentum on their side and key players stepping up, LAFC is poised for a thrilling final against Columbus Crew, aiming to capture the title that eluded them last year.
