Control Slipped

Carson, CA — The Galaxy had control. Then the game took it away.

It started on their terms. Clean in possession. Purpose in the movement. Marco Reus pulling strings, Gabriel Pec finding pockets, Yamane stretching the right side — everything building with intent.

Joseph Paintsil finished the sequence the way it deserved — sharp, composed, close range.1-0. And it felt like the Galaxy were settling into control, not just the scoreline.

But control in this league doesn’t hold itself.

Houston didn’t chase the game. They stayed disciplined. Compact. Waiting for the moment to open. And just before halftime, it did.

Guilherme picked it up outside the box… one touch to set, one strike to change everything. Power shot, precise — past Marcinkowski with no chance.

1-1.

Not just an equalizer — a shift.

The second half never found the same rhythm again. What was fluid turned physical. What was controlled turned contested.

Galaxy pushed, but the spaces weren’t there anymore. Houston dropped in, closed gaps, and forced everything into tighter, more uncomfortable areas.

Reus and Pec kept probing. Cerrillo tried to move things forward. But the final ball never quite landed. The final touch never fully connected.

On the other end, Houston carried just enough threat to keep the game honest — counters that reminded the Galaxy this wasn’t theirs to take freely.

And that’s how it stayed.

Half-chances. Late challenges. A game living in moments but never giving one side enough to finish it.

Some games are decided by quality. Some by mistakes.

This one… was decided by neither.

It was survived.
