The game started with the L.A. Galaxy putting pressure on the Seattle Sounders and moving the ball down the left flank. The first five minutes of the match, the L.A. Galaxy had two clear scoring opportunities. Carlos Pavon takes a strike on goal just to have Seattle’s goalkeeper earn an important save and denying Carlos Pavon his first MLS goal of the season. David Steres was caught flat footed when a pass was sent to Seattle’s Raúl Ruidíaz, who speed forced Steres to grab onto him and consequently earning him the straight red card.
The red card given to Steres early in the match, would place the L.A. Galaxy in a very difficult situation. Playing a man down is very demanding, not to mention, that early in the game. Nevertheless, L.A. Galaxy was forced to move Antuna to play right back and moved Feltscher to play center back.
The Galaxy continue to pressure Seattle and were able to contain Seattle’s attack until the 42nd minute, when Raúl Ruidíaz received a pass from Harry Shipp, and was able to a shot from the center of the box that got past Galaxy’s goalkeeper David Bingham.
The Galaxy would be down 1-0, but they kept their composure and were able to move the ball forward into the attacking half. In the 45th minute of the match, Sebastian Lletget was able to put a cross from the middle of the attacking field towards the center of the box, where Zlatan Ibrahimovic was able to place into the top right corner for his 19th goal of the 2019 MLS season. In the 45th +2 minutes, David Bingham had a huge save stopping the ball in the bottom right corner, shot from Cristian Roldan from the middle of the box. The game would go into halftime being tied at 1-1.
The second half would begin, and Seattle would come out in force, trying to take advantage of having the man advantage over the Galaxy. Nevertheless, the Galaxy was determined to continue waiting for the right moment to counterattack. David Bingham had 5 saves and was very close in earning a win for the Galaxy. In the 65th minute of the game, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was trying to go up for another header, but Seattle’s Kim Kee-Hee grabbed onto Zlatan and brought him down in the box which drew a penalty for the home team.
